I carry the Stowe (Same exact sheath design) on my hunting pack shoulder strap and it stays right there in my sheath. It never falls out - until I pull it out. I wear it upside down as well, just saying. So, rest easy and don't worry about losing your knife.
Kydex will scratch metal, so if you are bothered by that incredibly, keep the leather one.
