WILL IT STICK TO YOUR GARMENT

Worth a minute before you order.

The vinyl bonds to cotton, polyester, poly-cotton, fleece and jersey. It does not bond to nylon, mesh, waterproof or technical stretch fabric, or to leather.

Sports and activewear are the awkward ones. Many are treated with a moisture-wicking or water-repellent finish, and some carry a waxy or rubberised surface. That coating sits between the vinyl and the fabric, so the transfer lifts however hot the iron is. Nothing is wrong with the transfer and nothing is wrong with the garment; the two simply will not bond.

THE VINYL WE USE

Premium polyurethane (PU) heat transfer film. PU is thin and flexible rather than thick and plastic-feeling, so it moves with the fabric instead of cracking. Matt, metallic and glitter finishes, all listed in the colour dropdown.

Every letter is cut from a solid sheet of coloured vinyl, not printed. No background, no border, no white box - only your text.

CHOOSING YOUR SIZE

The sizes are in the dropdown above with the measurement and the letter allowance next to each one. Those are our recommended sizes, so in most cases picking from the list is enough.

The measurement is the width of the finished text, not the height. The simple rule: the maximum number of letters equals the width in centimetres. A 20 cm transfer takes up to 20 characters, spaces and punctuation included. On Multi Line the same number applies to each line, and the wider sizes allow more lines.

Height follows from the rest. More letters on a line, more lines in the same width, or a decorative font all make the letters shorter, and we keep them at least 1 cm tall. So a five-letter name is noticeably taller than a twelve-letter name at the same width.

Which width suits what: around 15 cm for a toddler tee or a breast-pocket name, 18 to 21 cm for a small child or an adult small, 25 cm for a medium, 29 to 30 cm for large and extra large, 35 cm for plus sizes. Measure the space on the garment and pick the width that fits inside it.

If your text will not fit the size you chose, we message you before anything is cut and offer a larger size, shorter text, or a refund.

HOW TO ORDER

Choose the layout, the size and the colour from the dropdowns above, then fill in the personalisation box. Everything we need is listed there, so please read it before you order.

Two things worth knowing while you type. We cut exactly what you send, including spelling, capitals and punctuation, and we do not correct or edit it. And if you want more than one line, separate them with a forward slash - for example Smith Family / Est. 2010 / London. The slash tells us where the line breaks and is not cut.

Letters, numbers, full stops, commas, hyphens, apostrophes, question and exclamation marks and the symbols and, at and hash all cut cleanly. Emojis, logos, brand marks and picture files do not - this listing is text only. Logos need a vector file, so message us before ordering if that is what you want.

One font and one colour per transfer. For a second colour, order a second transfer.

If the personalisation is missing we message you once. No reply within twenty-four hours and the order is cancelled and refunded. By ordering you confirm the text is yours to use and does not infringe anyone's copyright or trademark.

HOW TO APPLY

With an iron: set it to cotton or linen, around 150-160C, and turn the steam off. Lay the garment on a hard flat surface - a worktop is better than a padded ironing board. Position the transfer with the clear carrier sheet facing up, and align it carefully, because it cannot be moved once pressed. Press down firmly for 15-20 seconds without sliding the iron; lift and reposition instead. If the design is wider than the iron plate, press it in overlapping sections. Let it cool for 30-60 seconds, then peel the carrier back slowly from one corner. If an edge lifts, lay the carrier down and press that spot for another 10 seconds. Finally turn the garment inside out and press from the back for 10 seconds.

With a heat press: 155C, 15-20 seconds, medium pressure, cold peel.

Test the practice sample first. We do not apply the transfer for you, so the result depends on your iron, your pressure and your fabric - which is exactly what the sample is for.

WASH CARE

Leave it twenty-four hours before the first wash. Wash the garment inside out at 30C, do not tumble dry, and never iron directly onto the vinyl. Keep bleach and fabric softener off the transfer. Applied and washed this way, it outlasts the garment it is on.

IF SOMETHING GOES WRONG

Nothing sticks at all: check the fabric. Nylon, mesh, waterproof and coated finishes do not accept heat transfer vinyl.

It lifts after peeling: the iron was too cool, the steam was on, or the pressure was too light. Re-press hotter for 20 seconds, pushing down hard.

The middle is not bonded: the iron was moved rather than held. Press each section and hold it still.

The carrier sheet arrived creased: that is fine. The crease is on the carrier, not the vinyl, and it flattens out under the iron.

DISPATCH AND DELIVERY

Cut, packed and posted within one to two working days from our workshop in Wesham, Lancashire.

For delivery time, check the estimated dates shown on this listing and at checkout - Etsy works them out for your postcode and the option you pick. Tracking depends on the option and the size of the parcel: small letter-size items may travel untracked, and where a tracked service is used the number appears in your order.

Need it by a certain date? Message us before ordering, or straight after, with the date. We will tell you plainly whether it can be done. Orders with a faster delivery option are made first.

CANCELLATIONS AND PROBLEMS

You can cancel any time before we start cutting - just message us. Because the transfer is cut to your text, the fourteen-day change-of-mind cancellation stops applying once production has started. Spotted a mistake? Message within an hour or two of ordering and we will catch it.

Your statutory rights are unaffected. If an item arrives faulty, damaged or not as ordered, we repair, replace or refund, and you never pay return postage on our mistake. Tell us as soon as you can and send a photo - it speeds things up and it does not limit your rights.
