All of our ammolites are legally and ethically mined by the Blood Tribe members and handcrafted in Alberta Canada.
Native tribes in North America revere ammolites as their sacred stones that bring healing and protection. Feng Shui masters in the orient also believe that they can restore the balance of Qi and bring prosperity.
In the Ammolite mining industry, there are roughly 2 zones (layers) where ammolites are extracted. One is the K zone (the layer closest to the surface), most surface collector/miners mine ammolites from this zone because of the easy access (important to note: picking up any ammonite fossil without a permit in Canada is illegal!). The most typical characteristic of K zone ammolites is the crushed, broken up scaly pattern, like those of the “dragon skin”.
Well beneath the K zone is the Blue zone (20 to 60 meters under the surface). This area is extremely difficult to access without heavy earth-moving equipments. But it is worth the effort! Most gem quality, highly iridescent and brilliant Ammolites come from this zone. Because of these reasons Blue zone Ammolite demands a higher price tag.
Ammolite is one of the rarest organic gemstone in the world. While ammonite fossils can be found in many places in the world, jewelry quality/gem grade Ammolite can only be found in a small area in Southern Alberta Canada.
Ammonite VS Ammolite
Ammonite is the fossil of the extinct marine mollusc animals Ammonoid. And Ammolite is referred to the broken pieces of the fossil that is made into jewelries.
