The Carpathian Lizhnyk is a traditional woolen rug, woven by hand from 100% pure sheep wool. These rugs boast a unique character, featuring distinctive patterns and a luxuriously fluffy texture on one or both sides.

The weaving process is an age-old tradition, passed down from mother to daughter for generations. Skilled artisans utilize special wooden looms, often heirlooms in themselves, to create these beautiful and functional pieces.

Lizhnyks are not simply decorative; they offer a multitude of practical benefits. They are incredibly warm and visually appealing, adding a touch of cozy charm to any space. But most importantly, the natural sheep wool is gentle on the skin and can even improve blood circulation.

These rugs feature a dense, felted weave that provides a smooth, comfortable surface underfoot. They are equally well-suited as floor coverings or as cozy throws on the bed.

The creation of a Lizhnyk begins with sheep raised in the pristine mountain pastures of the Carpathians. Their wool is harvested and dyed using only natural materials.

The washed and dried wool is meticulously combed into a fluffy cloud-like mass. This same combed wool is also used to create pillows and blankets, known for promoting restful sleep. Interestingly, sheep wool has the remarkable property of absorbing and releasing up to 30% moisture into the environment, ensuring a comfortably dry bed.

Once spun into threads (rovnytsi), the wool becomes the canvas for the weaver's artistry. Each village boasts its own unique patterns, woven into the Lizhnyk, allowing it to tell a story of its origin.

The newly woven Lizhnyk undergoes a felting process in a large wooden vat called a "valylo". Here, water is channeled through a special structure, creating a powerful current that churns and strengthens the rug. This process also enhances its fluffiness, especially when done in the warm summer months. Finally, the Lizhnyk is dried and combed one last time, ready to bring warmth and beauty to your home.
