ONE 2.5 pound bag of our special Colorado Windy White Millet autoclave sterilized and sealed within a 0.22um filter patch equipped Unicorn 4T bag. (Contact us if you need larger quantities) This is grown on the front range of Colorado using NO-IRRIGATION techniques! Whaaat?? The family farm that produces this grows hundreds of acres of this millet using no-till practices -- relying on the skies above to provide adequate irrigation. No pesticides, no fertilizers or anything! We love supporting local family farms especially since we are one ourselves!
We use 1000g of this millet and add 500ml filtered tap water for the perfect end product after autoclaving for our mushrooms. **NOTE: WE KNOW 1500g is 3.3lb. That is what material input we START with. During the autoclave process, some moisture is lost in the form of steam (200g-300g) and the end result is an average 1200g pack. We autoclave up to 64 of these at a time and have 100% perfect results so why not let you in on some? We inoculate hundreds of these on a regular basis - they are ready-to-go!
When these arrive to you, they will be thermally sealed naturally from the autoclave process. However, to absolutely minimize the possibility of contamination we will seal the end of the bag with a 5mm heat seal. Unless the bag was punctured in some way or the filter patch failed there is almost zero possibility of contamination. We wipe the outside surface with a food grade ethanol prior to packaging and include an alcohol prep wipe so you can wipe the bag down when you are ready as well. It's the little things.
When you want to inoculate the bag, simply use your mushroom strain liquid culture of choice and using a syringe, puncture the self-sealing injection port and inject 10cc in a fluid motion. If you choose to use boosted grain spawn, (already colonized grain spawn from another bag) cut the top of the sealed bag open in front of a flow hood or clean area and consider using 50-100g of boosted grain spawn for best results.
In either case of Liquid Culture or Boosted Grain Spawn, open the sealed portion of the bag in front of a flow hood or in a clean environment, break up the compacted grain spawn which mixes the inoculant throughout the grain and re-seal using an impulse sealer or vacuum sealer.
This is an important step, as all oxygen is driven off during the autoclave process. If you inoculate your bag and it is still thermosealed and you don't give it a breath of fresh air in a clean environment, the mycelium will asphyxiate and die leaving you a contaminated mess. We don't want that. Also important to note, if you give your bag a breath of stale, stank air, this is most likely where your contamination will originate. Just sayin. After it is sealed up again, just sit it on the shelf or in a cabinet. No where in particular but not in bright light or a hot place. Not in the fridge either, that will only slow everything down.
If you did everything correctly, your bag should colonize within the next week or two. Use this 1500g to inoculate between 10 and 15 bulk bags of your choice. We use one of these for every 12x 10lb bulk bags we use.
Have fun shroomin!
