Braid, Bundle or Bun?

I package my combed top in Braids, Bundles and Buns, most of my fibre is available in all three sizes. A Braid is a minimum of 100g of combed top and it is 'crocheted' into a braid. To use it just untuck the end and pull, it'll just unravel easily. If it doesn't then you're probably working from the wrong end, flip it and try again A Bundle in a minimum of 50g of combed top. This will come wound into a bundle with the end tucked in. All you need do is locate the end and you're off A Bun is a minimum of 25g combed top and its rolled into a cute little bun shape. you'll probably be able to find either end to work from Sometimes you might find a mini bun in a selection box, those are a minimum of 10g

I wind my handspun yarn into skeins (you might also call them hanks). Its a convenient way of getting yarn to you untangled and allows me to give you an accurate estimate of the length (count the number of loops and multiple by the length of the skein). A Skein will be anything 30g or heavier A Mini Skein is generally around the 20g mark so I use that description for skeins from 15g to 30g A Micro Skein is under 15g. When the length of yarn gets down to sample territory rather than a usable length you might see Nano Skeins (bear in mind 8g of laceweight is going to go a lot further than 8g of chunky art yarn) You'll notice that the weights of the skeins vary a bit, that's because I'm a knitter too and that makes me adverse to joins!

Let me explain that a bit more clearly - when I spin say 100g of fibre on to two bobbins its very unlikely I'll get precisely 50g on to each one. I could split it evenly when I wind the skeins but that would mean taking a bit off one length and adding it to the other - you get two equal weight skeins but would find a knot in one of them! To avoid the dreaded knots I don't even out the skeins. To make things a bit easier I group the skeins by size but always give you an approximate weight and length measurement.

Is it a rolag or a puni?

It's not really either! A traditional rolag would be made using hand carders and is a light and fluffy fibre preparation. A puni is a much more compact roll of fibre, usually for cotton fibre. I make my 'rolags' on a blending board. They are around 22cm (9") long and fairly compact, each one weighs approximately 5g. That's a little shorter than some you might see and that's why you don't see mine rolled up into spirals. As I make them by hand and use a lot of natural fibres too, there'll be some variation between individual rolags and batches but you'll always get a pack weighing a total of at least 25g (5 rolags) or 50g (10 rolags) etc. To spin from a rolag you can just start at one end and use whatever drafting style you fancy.

I sell Combed Top - a strip of fibre where the individual fibres have been 'combed' in a mill so they are all (vast majority anyway) aligned. This fibre prep lends itself to worsted style spinning. You might see combed top referred to as 'roving' - it's not, roving is a carded fibre prep where the fibre is not so aligned. Roving lends itself to woollen style spinning. Etsy doesn't currently have a fiber section for combed top so it's gets classified as 'roving' as a 'best I can do' option. I know it's not perfect, we all need to explain this to Etsy :)

Buying from the EU, non-EU Europe and Northern Ireland

The GSPR regulations which come into affect on 13th Dec 2024 prevent me from selling to customers within the EU and non-EU countries within the common market (including Northern Ireland) without a representative within the EU. This is something I am looking in to finding a solution for however, until I do, I have disabled to option to purchase from A Little Tangled from these countries. Currently, Etsy does not provide the means of preventing sales to customers within NI (without preventing sales to the rest of the UK). This is something I hope will be resolved soon but, as an interim measure, I will be cancelling and issuing full refunds for any purchases made my customers in NI. Rhubarb - Corriedale, UK Alpaca & Sari Silk

This blend of 72% corriedale wool, 14% natural, undyed UK Alpaca and 14% recycled sari silk is shades of pink with a touch of lime green - just as you'd expect from rhubarb! The recycled sari silk adds texture as well as pops of colour (you might also find a bit of sparkle as it really is recycled from sari production)

72% 25-30 micron corriedale, staple length 80-120mm, complies to Oeko-Tex 100, EN71-3:2019+A1:2021 standards

14% Natural undyed, Alpaca from the UK, 28 - 29 microns

14% recycled sari silk - As Sari Silk is a recycled handmade and hand dyed product, I suggest only cold water use

If you order more than one bun, bundle or braid I'll make sure they all are from the same batch. How I spun the sample: I spun this top from the end without getting too worried about the little blips of sari silk and plied 2 singles together to give a heavy aran yarn. (You're buying the fibre here, not the yarn sample)
