Clean quartz crystal using warm soapy water and a soft brush. Although it has a high hardness, quartz crystal can still be scratched or damaged by gemstones with a higher hardness, as well as other materials. Avoid using household chemicals when cleaning quartz crystal beads, components or jewelry. Store quartz crystal inside a fabric-lined box or wrapped in a soft cloth.

Many collectors like to pass new pieces through sage smoke as part of welcoming them into a collection. This is a personal tradition rather than a care requirement, and it is entirely optional. If you do it, hold the stone near the smoke stream, or set the smoldering stick near where the piece is stored. Always use a fireproof ceramic bowl to catch ash and embers.

Lemurian quartz takes its name from the horizontal ridges that run like rungs up the sides of each point. Run a fingertip along the face and you can feel them. Collectors call these striations "ladders," and the name traces back to a story that circulated among Brazilian miners and dealers in the 1990s, when the material first reached the wider market. In that telling, the ridges read like a record left behind by an ancient people.

Whether or not you hold with the story, the striations are what make this material distinctive, and they are the reason Lemurian points are so widely sought after by collectors. In crystal collecting circles, these points carry a long association with themes of connection, gentleness, and open heartedness, and they turn up constantly in grid layouts and meditation corners for that reason.
