This listing is for a massive, 21 lb piece of rough Oregon jasper. This piece generally has dark colored shades (dark red, yellow, brown, black) throughout along with small pockets of chalcedony / agate. I imagine if this piece is cut open or into slabs, more will be revealed but no guarantee. A thin layer of host rock exists in pockets.

*Note: The last 4 pictures show what this piece looks like wet to highlight color.

Weight: 21 lbs (9,525 grams).

This piece was found along Klickitat Ridge (Lincoln County, Oregon).

The name “Jasper” is derived from the old French language that means “spotted” or “mottled.”

Similar to agate, a jasper mineral originates from chalcedony (a type of quartz) and features iron oxides, hydroxides and other mineral impurities which help to create unique color combinations: yellow, brick-red, brown, mottled green and, rarely - blue. Typically, jasper is spotted, striped or multi-colored. An adequate amount of mineral impurities make jasper opaque. On the Mohs scale, jasper has a hardness of 6.5 - 7.

A rough jasper mineral can often look dull and needs to be polished or tumbled to reveal its unique color and shiny surface. Jasper is often used to create stunning jewelry and decorative pieces.

FORMATION:

Most jaspers formed millions of years ago when gasses in volcano lava had been trapped in rocks. As the gasses escaped from the cooling & hardening rocks, hollow cavities called vesicles (amygdules) were formed. These vesicles became increasingly filled with silica-rich fluid and other mineral impurities such as iron oxides & hydroxides contributing to their colors today, along with their flow patterns.
