This magnificent antique cameo features a large hand-carved shell portrait set within a substantial 1/20 10K gold-filled rope-twist bezel, a hallmark of fine jewelry craftsmanship from the late Victorian into early Edwardian era (circa 1895–1915).
The cameo displays exceptional high-relief carving with deep undercutting and beautiful natural translucency. Flowing hair, classical drapery, and crisp facial detail reveal the work of a skilled artisan rather than mass production.
Designed as a convertible jewel, this piece retains its original hinged bail, allowing it to be worn both as a brooch and as a pendant — a highly desirable feature among collectors. The pin clasp remains functional in traditional C-clasp form (the folding keeper is absent, as shown).
