Custom Kanji Calligraphy Embroidered Patch - Chinese Japanese & Korean Characters


Care instructions:
turn garment inside out, place inside a zipped laundry bag and wash on cold. hang dry.

Ironing instructions:
Peel paper backing, cover with a rag or cookie sheet and press firmly on low heat for about 10 seconds. Just make sure the iron isn't directly touching the patches. Wait for patch to cool and adhesive to solidify, then test to see if it stuck. I recommend heat to range from 180-220F

About me:
This is a one-man operation. I have one machine, and I make these from home. I do it all. Still, I prioritize quality in a way that I feel some larger businesses forgo in favor of speed. When I create my embroidery patterns, I carefully consider texture, light reflection, & durability. When assembling, I use the highest quality materials available to me and run the machine at the slowest setting (400 stitches per minute rather than 800 or 1000). This dramatically increases the chances of stitches laying perfectly and reduces the chances of thread breaks.

Why all the Japanese stuff?
I've been interested in Japanese culture for most of my life, including history, entertainment, food, etc. It's an unusual obsession since I spend a lot of time watching Japanese movies & anime from the 1920s-1980s. The beauty of kamon and ancient Japanese artwork have always drawn my attention, but I only began embroidering them a few years ago to study complex shapes to improve my embroidery skills. To my surprise, I attracted the attention of Japanese Americans who feel their culture isn't well represented in the embroidery world. Although I'm not solely dedicated to embroidering Japanese artwork, I do respect this opportunity to create things that are personally interesting to me, that also have such cultural and sentimental value for my customers.

Materials:
Fabric:
I use a 3 layer stack of 100% cotton twill (white or black, bright colors are polyester) and two layers of heavy-duty embroidery stabilizer. This allows my patches to be as sturdy as a cracker when held by its edge, while retaining enough flexibility to be twisted, rolled, or balled up, ensuring comfort when worn.

Thread:
My regular thread is a Madeira Polyneon, a German-made thread that is very durable and shiny. It costs slight over $20 a spool
My metallic thread is a Madeira Smooth Metallic, which is much shinier and features above-average durability. This costs about $110 per spool.


FAQ:
What is hook & loop?
It's the general name popularized by the "V-crow" company. It's 2 part material that sticks to each other, one piece is rough the other is soft. Think elderly or children's shoes with straps instead of laces. Many patches are attached this way, especially in the military. Sadly, I can't just say the V name because they're strict about their trademark.

Why can't I get XS patches in metallic?
XS patches require a thin 60-weight thread, while the others require a thicker 40-weight thread. My metallic thread only comes in 40-weight. Although I can make some simple designs in metallic size XS, many of the kamon on offer are too complicated at size XS to offer it.

Turnaround time:
As a safety precaution, I set all orders to 5 business days by default. However, I try to make and ship them within 3 business days or less. This is a one-man operation, so sometimes orders can take a little longer if I already have many orders, though I've never been more busy than I can handle.
