Highlights
Here is a wonderful late 1960s find, a set of black cat placemats designed by Reginald Corfield Ltd, on bright blue backgrounds. Reginald Corfield had been a prolific metal tray maker in the post war period, later producing more decorative items such as these fabulous cat coasters. The company closed down in 1969, which is why I'm dating them as late 1960s, these cats would also look really at home in a 1970s aesthetic.
Condition: Unfortunately, these coasters are not in perfect condition, with signs of use unsurprising given that they're well over 50 years old. All of the placemats (which are either tin plate or aluminium, the materials used by the company) have some damage to the blue printed surface. In the majority of the coasters, there are only small spots where there is damage which allows the silver of the metal below the blue to be visible. On a couple of the coasters, there are several small nicks to the blue. On one of the coasters, there are many areas of damage like this, plus a long curling scratch. With only 10 photographs, it's hard to illustrate every instance of damage on all 6 pieces of this set, but do get in touch to ask for more photos, am more than happy to send more from different angles / with light glare which could better illustrate the signs of wear. The extent of the damage is reflected in the price. All of the placemat coasters have a cork base, which are all in excellent condition.
Size: each mat / coaster is 16.5cm in diameter and a little less than .5cm thick.
