How old is an Antique Book?

The formal definition is that the book should be 100 years old or older! As the term antique is often loosely used to describe any older objects we use this term from time to time to describe some books that are quite old i.e. from the 1930s or 1940s but which do not fall into the 100 year old category. Vintage books are defined as those which have been published 20 years ago or more.

Why are the pages on some antique books still joined?

When printed a book is usually printed on larger sheets that are cut into fours or eights. One of the late stages of book production is cutting the paper. On occasion the edges of the book were not cut and the sheets stayed folded, instead of being separated. This is more common on older books made when bookmaking as a process was much less automated. Often the book was sold and the new owner intended to have it rebound in a more expensive material such as leather and recutting would ensure that all of the pages ended up separated. At other times to save time and money publishers sold some books uncut and a consumer would get a knife and cut the book themselves.

Older books that retain their popularity are almost always considered to be among the classics.

What is your policy on refunds and returns?

Returns can only be made within 21 days of delivery. Buyer is responsible for return postage costs and any loss in value if an item isn't returned in original condition. If an order has been sent and not claimed by the buyer then the buyer is not entitled to any compensation or a refund.

What do some of the book terms mean in your descriptions?

I try to be as accurate as possible when describing each book and some of the terms that I use may not be familiar to you so here's a little guide to the most commonly used words and phrases. Frontispiece - an illustration facing the title page of a book. Dust Cover/Dust Jacket - the detachable outer cover, usually made of paper and printed with text and illustrations. This outer cover has folded flaps that hold it to the front and back book covers. Foxing - Brown spotting on the paper. Tanning - a darkening or yellowing of the pages. Ex-library - once owned and circulated by a public library. Ex-libris - a bookplate inscribed to show the name of the book's owner, one coming from a private home library/book collection.

What does the book condition mean?

All of our books are previously owned and we often use different terms to describe their condition: Very good - some small signs of wear but no tears. Good - has average wear and some small defects. Acceptable/fair - a worn book that has complete text pages with noticeable wear, age marking and other signs of use throughout. Reading Copy - one that is usually in acceptable/fair condition which includes all text presented in a legible fashion. The copy is fine to read but nothing more.

Aged book pages including 50 or 100 vintage & antique book pages which are all naturally aged through the passage of time.
Decades and decades have gone into the creation of this recycled paper. It has been removed from antique and vintage books that are unfortunately no longer readable as they are damaged beyond repair or have missing pages.
You can choose from a paper ephemera pack of 50 or 100 sheets of paper. The packs include a wonderful collection of black and white book pages in different sizes and in a pleasing array of colours from off white to cream and sepia.
The pages cover a range of subject matter both fiction and non fiction, poetry and prose, with different print types. Most are 2 sided pages of text with some black & white line drawings/ illustrations and they are mostly octavo size with some larger, some smaller. As expected with antique ephemera some of the paper has age marking/creasing and a few pages may have pencil marking/ink notations.
Your pack will come in a resealable cello wallet and include 50/100 pages from at least 5 different vintage or antique publications. The pages have been carefully removed from these old books and I have left the raw edges giving you the choice to use them as they are or trim them.
These pages are perfect for a wide range of art and craft projects such as scrapbooking, quilling, collage and decoupage. They could also be used for creating confetti or bunting.
