Did you know that the Qixi festival is not only a couple’s day but also a women’s day? This is a three-piece feminine Song Dynasty set—each piece has several colors available so you can mix and match as you please. Two sets with different color combinations also make a matched set! This name is a four-character chengyu literally meaning temperament like a primrose, heart like an orchid, coined in Wang Bo’s Qixi poetic essay to describe women of elegant, virtuous character.

This is a three piece set consisting of the following:

吊帶/DIAODAI/CAMISOLE
The diaodai is a top resembling modern camisoles, with straps and a simple body. It’s made to imitate the 宋抹 (song4 mo3), a feminine garment used to cover the torso, consisting of a rectangular piece of fabric wrapped and tied around the bust. This piece is made of a breathable tencel-linen mix with two prints available, POMEGRANATE and GOLDFISH.

對襟短衫/DUIJIN DUANSHAN/TOP
This simple top is a shorter and more casual version of the formal women’s garment known as the beizi and is referred to as a shan because it is unlined. This shan has shorter, wider sleeves to allow for better breathability. Three colors are available for this piece: MAUVE, TERRACOTTA and TEAL.

褶裙/ZHEQUN/SKIRT
A pleated skirt imitating the Song Dynasty baidiequn, arguably the most popular skirt of its time, with variations like high-low cut, apron-style and more. For this piece we have three colors for you to choose from: PLUM, MUSTARD and ROBIN.

The 蕙质兰心 Orchid zhequn in plum is a many pleated skirt in a muted pink (almost mauve) color. The crepe weave creates friction, allowing the waist ties to remain in place. Not too heavy given the sheer amount of fabric in the whole skirt. Comes without pockets (you could probably custom add them though); I have worn pocketed pants beneath it without an issue.

I didn’t realize that the Shan came with the little front ties! That’s so convenient, you can really wear this shirt open or with a tang dress if you want. The material is a little transparent, but opaque enough to hide bra straps if you need it to. It fits me just like it should. Sizing so far with this shop has been great. I’d love to come back and get a skirt in the future when I have a bit more money.
