Classic French 1900s antique, all handgathered nightgown. Hand embroidered monogram MC with scallop edges and gatherings. The size is M/L.
100% hemp linen fabric, cool and heavy to the touch. Nubby in places. The grayish-oatmeal tone is the quality of unbleached hemp fiber. This gown is all hand gathered (hems, scallop edges, monogram DV, side piecings).
Feminine finish with an all hand-embroidered scallop edging on collar and scallop edging on sleeves. The gown has two original mother-of-pearl buttons for the enclosure on front. This old garment carries gatherings on front and back.
It will be lovely as a decorative piece for your antique store, a shabby chic corner or simply worn as a casual dress or nightgown.
In excellent antique and new condition. Please do check the photos as they are an integral part of the description and represent the item's condition.
Washed and ironed with care, in my home. Some long term storage, light yellowing might remain, as expected on antique dresses. These were kept and confined in linen armoires for many years. No tears, ho holes, no freyed seams. The staining will subside with subsequent washes. Laying in the sunlight is the most natural bleaching method.
Carefully check wanted measurements against those presented.
