What kind of paint should I use to paint 3D models?

Acrylic paint works beautifully on 3D printed models. I personally use a combination of acrylic paint, spray paint, and UV nail polish (yes, you read that right) to get the best finish.

This is a digital STL file for a 1:12 scale miniature replica of a folding chair. There are two separate sets of frames included: one for a beach chair and one for a lawn chair. This model requires assembly (4 pin hinges need to be added with wire or push pins). Besides those those 4 pins, all the other pieces of the frame snap together. I have also included a printable template for the fabric you’ll need to finish the beach chair. The finished versions you see in the photos were printed in filament finished with a fabric. The lawn chair uses a ribbon weaving and the beach chair uses a waterproof fabric. Note: silk/metallic PLA (the silver version you see in the picture) tends to be more brittle than basic color PLA. Please keep that in mind as the hinges may break if you use too much pressure on silk/metallic PLA prints.
