Bird feeder baffles and bird house pole predator guards - deter squirrels, raccoons, snakes from climbing, raiding feeding / nesting sites

Our bird house pole predator guards also make very effective bird feeder baffles, deterring squirrels, raccoons, and snakes from climbing poles and raiding nesting sites and feeding areas. Did you know that the diet of many different species of snakes includes birds and bird eggs, and that snakes are notorious for raiding bird houses? It's true - in fact snakes like king snakes, rat snakes, and corn snakes are all very proficient climbers, and a bird house nailed to a tree is extremely easy for them to climb up to and get inside of. While other bird nest predators like raccoons and possums may have difficulty reaching into the relatively small holes of most bird houses, snakes have no problem at all. This is why you should always use some type of predator guard or baffle around the tree, post, or pole where your bird house is located.

Our custom fitted bird house pole predator guards and bird feeder baffles provide safety and security for nesting and feeding birds, by deterring and preventing predators from climbing up a pole and gaining access to bird houses or bird feeders. We make each one of our baffles with a custom fitted insert to fit tightly enough around different sized poles and posts to prevent snakes from squeezing through the opening between the pole or post and the insert. While our baffles fit snug around the pole, they still swing and sway freely enough to deter other predators and pests like raccoons, possums, and squirrels from climbing on and around the baffle. The swinging and swaying of this device is what "BAFFLES" (confuses) the predators so that they can't figure out how to climb on it or get around it. Living on the edge of a wildlife preserve, I used to have a lot of problems with raccoons and possums getting on my bird feeders and bird houses until I made and started using this device. It really works!

HERE'S HOW THESE BIRD HOUSE POLE PREDATOR GUARDS AND BIRD FEEDER BAFFLES ARE MADE AND WHAT THEY ARE MADE FROM:

We start out with a galvanized smooth surfaced metal pipe 24 inches long and 8 inches in diameter. We cut an 8 inch round wood insert and then cut a custom hole (2" - 4" inches in diameter) in the center of the insert to fit the diameter of the pole or post (either a round hole to fit a round pole or a square hole to fit 4x4 posts). Note - the hole cut in the baffle is slightly larger than the actual diameter of the pole (i.e. a 3" diameter pole needs a hole cut to a 3.375" diameter to allow the baffle to swing and sway freely). We then securely attach the custom insert inside one end of the metal pipe with sheet metal screws. We then paint the entire baffle with a flat dull bronze color so that it has an attractive look and blends with natural surroundings. The baffle is designed to mount on a wooden pole with 2 hooks and eyes (as seen in photo 3), the hooks screw into the top of the baffle (into the wood insert), and the eyes screw into opposite sides of the wooden pole or post (this is what allows the baffle to swing and sway freely).

We now offer an ingenious new baffle that can be mounted on small and odd sized metal poles (metal poles having diameters anywhere from 1" to 2" or even larger. View photo 5 in the listing photos to see how our baffle can be mounted to a metal pole. When ordering our baffle for a metal pole, please include in the "note to seller" the diameter of your metal pole, so that we can cut the proper size hole in the top of the baffle and include the special hardware needed for mounting the baffle to a metal pole (as seen in photo 5). Note - if you have a 1.25" diameter metal pole, include "for 1.25" metal pole" in the "note to seller" and we will cut a 1.625" hole in the top of baffle (the hole is cut slightly larger than the diameter of the pole to allow the baffle to swing and sway freely).

IMPORTANT TIP: The recommended suspension height of the baffle for it to work effectively is for the bottom of the baffle to be at least 24 inches from the ground. Therefore, you will want to screw the eyes (for the hooks) into the pole or post a minimum of 48 inches high. This will ensure that your bird house pole predator guard (or bird feeder baffle) is mounted correctly.
