Highlights
An original antique botanical print or plate - Paphinia Cristata - Crested Paphinia Orchid : Gynandria Monandria variety. Depicting maroon with white markings, and yellow stamen.
The plate is from the Curtis Botanicals March 1st, 1855. Published by Vincent, Brooks ; lithograph by W. Fitch. Hand-colored plate numbered # 4836. The print comes with its original information page - see photograph
William Curtis was an English Botanist. He established his own Botanical Garden in Lambeth, England in 1779. He then went on to publish the Botanical Magazine in 1787. This print is from a collection of plates that were in the 1851 magazine.
The plate has light edge discoloration : No tears or damage. See photographs.
The orchid print measures approx. 10" x 6 1/4" (unframed).
