Highlights

Vintage from the 19th century

This beautiful antique edition of The Poetical Works Of Oliver Goldsmith was published by Charles Griffin. The book itself is undated but from the style of the binding, I'd estimate it to be from the mid Victorian era - circa 1870.

It is bound in green cloth with stunning blind stamped decoration in gold gilt to the front board and spine. The boards are bevelled and the text block edges are gold gilt.

It's in good condition for it's age but the corners do show light wear and crushing, with fraying to the cloth. The board edges are bumped and the boards show some light marking and rubbing. The front board is slightly darkened and dulled when compared to the back board and spine. The spine ends are crushed which has caused minor splitting in the cloth.

Inside, there is a neatly written inscription to the front free endpaper and the endpapers are tanned. The pages show some age toning and there is sporadic foxing to the preliminary pages. There are superficial cracks to the gutter in places but the pages remain tightly bound.

There are beautiful black and white illustrations inside which make this old edition even more special.

Book Size: 21.5cm x 16.5cm x 2cm (Approx.)

The book will arrive hand wrapped in patterned wallpaper and string.

I use a range of eco friendly, 100% recyclable jiffy bags and boxes, and whenever possible I use brown paper tape. The green bubble wrap is biodegradable and the clear bubble wrap is 100% recyclable. I also reuse boxes when I feel it's appropriate (if the boxes are sturdy enough).
