La pittura Ebru-Marbling è un genere distintivo di arte acquosa. Quest'arte decorativa ha avuto origine nell'Asia centrale e si è poi diffusa in Cina, India ed Europa. Veniva utilizzato soprattutto per produrre opere ipnotizzanti e gli artisti utilizzavano questa tecnica pittorica marmorizzata per decorare libri, decreti imperiali e corrispondenza ufficiale in epoca medievale.
In questa tecnica artistica come dalle sue origini vengono utilizzati prodotti naturali, pennelli con crine di cavallo, rami di rosa ecc... La vaschetta da marmorizzazione viene riempita il giorno prima con uno speciale liquido di origine vegetale e l'artista realizza i disegni con colori naturali utilizzando pettini e posizionare delicatamente la carta ed infine la stampa sul foglio.
La tecnica per realizzare la carta marmorizzata richiede grande abilità, precisione e anche grande pazienza. Questa tecnica è stata utilizzata in Italia dal XVIII secolo in poi ed è invece arrivata a Venezia nel 1975 grazie ad Alberto Valese che rimase affascinato dal libro Papiers da Fantasie [1852].
