Seller's description

100 Georgia collard greens seeds (Brassica oleracea) for big, blue green Southern collards that keep going through heat and frost.

Georgia, also known as Georgia Southern, grows tall, vigorous plants with large, blue green, slightly crumpled leaves and a rich, mild cabbage flavor. It is known for handling summer heat better than most greens while staying hardy through fall frosts, which sweeten the leaves. It also tolerates poorer soils, making it a dependable staple in Southern gardens and beyond. Harvest leaves for slow simmered greens, soups and braises, or blanch and freeze or can them for later.

Heirloom, open pollinated and non-GMO.

GROWING INSTRUCTIONS
Direct sow outdoors 2 to 4 weeks before your last frost, or start indoors 6 to 8 weeks before the last frost date. In warm climates, a late summer sowing gives greens through fall and winter. Plant seeds ¼ inch deep in well drained soil and keep them consistently moist until germination, which typically occurs within 7 to 14 days. Thin seedlings to 18 to 24 inches apart to give these large plants room. Water regularly and side dress with compost for lush growth. Begin harvesting when leaves reach a usable size, picking the lower leaves first and leaving the growing tip so the plant keeps producing.

• Life cycle: Cool season annual (biennial)
• Height: 24 to 36 inches
• Days to maturity: 60 to 80
• Light: Full sun to light shade
• Soil: Average to fertile, well drained
• Water: Regular, even moisture
• Seed depth: ¼ inch
• Spacing: 18 to 24 inches
• Germination: 7 to 14 days
