Not typically. The high-resolution file is the original artwork, not an extra copy. Once it’s released, it can be reproduced endlessly, which removes all protection for the artist. Because of that, digital licenses are only offered by request and are priced higher to reflect that value and risk.

Why is a digital file more expensive than a print?

A print is a finished piece made from the original image. A digital file is the source itself, it allows unlimited reproductions. That’s why professional artists charge more for digital rights; it’s not just a product, it’s the creative master file.

Is it considered rude to ask for a digital file?

Not rude, but most people just don’t realize what they’re asking for. But in photography and art, the digital file is like asking for the original painting instead of a print. It’s always okay to ask respectfully, but artists have to protect their work to prevent misuse and copying.

It's just a printj. I thought it was going to be on something thicker such as photo paper and it's basically cardstock-type paper. Still going to hang it up, but was disappointed.
