We are enthusiastically introducing the SGW original design set (solid wood and pieces) with walnut and chestnut. The set consists of:
- An original SGWdesign board, with solid American walnut and chestnut wood and walnut frame (20 inches overall board size- 18 inches playing field);
- Chess pieces with walnut and chestnut, heavily weighted, in a neoclassical SGW original design (with 2 additional queens).

The SET:
The set is made out of 100 % solid wood and it is a handmade product designed and created in our shop, in Greece, by myself and my father. Every piece of the set receives exclusive attention and care, with a high focus on details and product quality requirements. To ensure a better protection against scratches, as well as for a better preservation of the wood, we are using the best quality acrylic lacquer, a strong polish, applied in 3 layers. The sanding is done following several steps, with progressively finer grits. The colours of the board, as well as the pieces are the natural shades of the woods that we are using. When purchasing one of our products please keep in mind that wood is a natural material, therefore it might have different shades or wood grains. As a result, the product can vary slightly from the pictures. Nethertheless, every different grain, blemish or shade is what makes each set unique.
Regarding the design, the set has a classical, timeless look, with an insert of modern elements, having the ability to adapt in various home decors.

**For custom orders you have the option to choose if you want your set (pieces and board) to have a matte finish, satin finish or glossy finish.
*In the reference picture the chess board has a matte finish (acrylic lacquer - polish), while the chess pieces have a glossy finish.

About the CHESS PIECES:
These chess pieces represent the result of 3 years of work dedicated to achieve a look that has the adaptability to comply with both classical taste, as well as a more modern one. The set was created in a neoclassical style, attained with the precious help of a friend – a talented designer, with whom we’ve closely collaborated. The purpose was to create a set of pieces that could match several board styles created by us, being able to adapt to the general SGW approach – chess sets that can represent one of your family’s most loved heirlooms.
Nevertheless, appearance was definitely not the only factor taken into consideration. Durability was certainly a very important aspect when creating the pieces. Therefore, the pieces are made out of solid wood, which is manually selected by myself and my father. Every single piece is heavily weighted, while the bottoms of the pieces are covered by a blend of wool felt, in an elegant dark blue shade.

About the SGW Walnut and Chestnut BOARD:This chessboard represents the first original SGW item and it is a timeless classic piece, which can harmonize with a big variety of home decors. The product is a handmade wooden chess board made of 100% solid wood (American walnut and chestnut) and it has an acrylic matte finish, which provides a better protection against scratches and environmental conditions. Also, the acrylic polish, applied in 3 layers, supports the preservation of the natural colour of the wood. The frame of the board is made out of solid walnut wood, with a size of 2.5 cm (1 inch) width. We only use premium quality wood and we do not compromise on getting the finest selection of wood.
The chessboard comes with pieces of felt underneath, in order to protect it, as well as the surface the board will be placed on.

MAINTENACE: Please keep the set out of direct sunlight, rain, snow, heat, very high temperatures or humid spaces. After receiving your product please make sure to carefully remove the packaging. Wood is a natural material; therefore it needs to breathe. Do not place heavy items on the product. To remove dust, use a clean and damp cotton cloth and swipe it gently across the surface of the chess board/chess pieces. Please make sure you drain the cloth properly before you wipe the products.
