Sadhbh Irish Mythology Art Print, Antlered Deer Woman Silhouette in a Misty Green Forest, Cloaked Celtic Folklore Woodland Wall Decor w58

Seller's description

A cloaked woman with antlers standing in a misty green wood, her head bowed and her whole figure gone almost to silhouette against the pale light behind the trees. This is Sadhbh, the deer woman of Irish mythology, and Celtic folklore has no sadder story than hers.

She refused the dark druid Fer Doirich, and he turned her into a doe for three years. What saved her was not magic but recognition: Fionn's hounds Bran and Sceolan, who had themselves been born of a woman changed into a hound, would not hunt her, and knew what she was when no one else did. She was made human again inside Fionn's fort at Almhuin, and they were married, and he gave up hunting altogether. Then the druid lured her back out with an illusion of her husband coming home, and she was a deer again before she reached the gate. Fionn searched seven years and never found her, only a wild boy in the woods with her face, whom he named Oisín, little deer. Some say she is walking still.

"The Seven Years" is built almost entirely out of what you cannot see. Deep greens go nearly black around a single wash of pale gold mist, and she reads as a shape rather than a face, the antler crown breaking the outline at the top and the cloak falling into the undergrowth at the bottom. Her head is turned down and away, which is the whole picture: not a goddess presiding over a forest, but someone who has been in one too long.

Printed on high-quality archival fine art paper and available in matte or satin finish. The matte finish gives a softer, more muted look with reduced glare, while the satin finish adds gentle sheen and slightly richer colours, allowing details and highlights to stand out more clearly. Please be aware that the colors, brightness, contrast, saturation and vibrancy of the artwork may vary across different screens and devices. The printed image may look different from what you see on your screen due to these variations. Although my prints accurately reflect the original artwork, I have no control over the display settings of individual devices which can influence how the artwork appears.

Please note that I create my original artwork in different proportions, so small adjustments are sometimes needed when fitting them to different print sizes. All key elements of the artwork always remain fully visible and true to the original design.
