Highlights

PATTERN ONLY - THIS IS NOT A PHYSICAL PRODUCT

This is a listing for a PDF download for a crochet hippo pattern created by me. Skill level: intermediate.

This pattern is written in English and uses US terminology.

Stitches and abbreviations used:
ST = stitch, CH = chain, SC = single crochet, HDC = half double crochet, DC = double crochet, SLST = slip stitch, INC = increase (2SC in 1ST), DEC = invisible decrease, BO = bobble stitch, FLO = front loops only, BLO = back loops only, FO = Fasten off, (#) = number of stitches

Materials needed are:
- Premier Retro Velvet Yarn (size 5) in gray (or whichever color you prefer). I’d recommend having a full skein of the color you would like for your hippo, just in case, because it uses approximately 150 yards. There are also some small accessories you can make written in the pattern: teeth (white yarn, less than 3 yards), hat (black, less than 2 yards) and bow (blue, less than 2 yards).
- 5mm crochet hook
- 2 safety eyes (14mm)
- Polyfill/fiberfill
- Darning needle
- Scissors
- Stitch marker

The finished size is approximately 7.5in/19cm tall, 8in/20cm length, 4.5in/11cm wide. (Size will vary if using different yarn weights and hooks).

This is an intermediate pattern and there is some sewing. The head is sewn to the body and if you choose to make some of the accessories (teeth/hat/bow) they each also require sewing to attach. To make this pattern have less sewing the ears and nostrils are made by crocheting into the surface of the plushie. Creating the body shape requires you to attach 4 legs into the body rounds, which is the trickiest part, so I linked a YouTube video within the PDF for extra assistance for that portion! This YouTube video will assist with Rounds 1-5 of the body if you need it.

If you need any help, please reach out to me!! I love to help! <3

This pattern is very well written and easy to understand. The leg joining is a little tricky the first time but the video is a great help and after making one the rest will all be easy. Best part is you get to create the most adorable hippo or hippos ever.
