What is the ideal Sadhu nail board for a beginner?

The distance between nails (pitch) is the main feature that differs Sadhu nail boards for beginners and advanced practitioners. For people with a low pain threshold, it is recommended to start with a nail board of 8mm. However, based on our experience, the majority of beginners can easily start with a nail board of 10 mm. It is the standard pitch we use in all our METADESK nail boards.

What is a nail board pitch?

The pitch is the distance between nails on the Sadhu nail board. To be more specific, the shorter the distance between nails, the easier it is to stand on the nail board. And vice versa. The longer the pitch, the harder it is to practice on such a nail board. Sometimes, beginners, and women, in particular, opt for boards with a pitch of 8 mm to avoid pain. The optimal pitch for beginners (both men and women) is 10 mm. A nail board with a pitch of 12 mm is okay for beginners who practice nail board standing regularly. 15 mm is a perfect pitch for advanced practitioners using the nail board on a daily basis.

Are there any contraindications to the use of Sadhu nail boards?

Well, the main downside you may face is the lack of desire to stand on the Sadhu nail board! Pregnant women and women at the beginning of their menstrual cycle are not recommended to use the nail board. At the same time, people with heart conditions and heart insufficiency shouldn’t use the Sadhu nail board. Those who suffered strokes and heart attacks in the past six months should abstain from using the Sadhu nail board too. People having acute body pains, and open wounds on their feet, as well as individuals under substances including alcohol, are not recommended to use the nail board.

How sharp are these nails? Can I hurt my feet using the Sadhu nail board?

The nails are relatively sharp, however, the skin on your feet is thick enough to protect you from injuries. At the same time, the distance between the nails is designed to evenly distribute your weight, hence your feet cannot be harmed by nails whatsoever. However, you should obey common safety rules at all times. Do not jump over the nail board, instead slowly step on the board and descend carefully.

How do I properly take care of my Sadhu nail board?

The best property of the Sadhu nail board is that it doesn’t require any special care! However, it is recommended to wipe it from time to time with a slightly wet rug. The area of the board containing nails can be cleaned from dust using a paintbrush. To sanitize the edges of nails you may use a cotton makeup sponge dipped in a chlorhexidine solution. Please store our Sadhu nail boards with a cover on to ensure they are securely closed. This is crucial to protect you and anyone around from accidental stepping (covers are provided with each nail board!) It is not recommended to expose the nail board to excessive water and direct sun rays as well as to use ethanol when sanitizing the nails.

What types of nails are there?

There are different types of nails you may see on various Sadhu nail boards online. These might be long, short, thick, thin, or curved nails. Neither of these parameters can affect the quality of your practice, hence you may choose any type you want. For our METADESK nail boards, we calibrate the height of nails to make them all even. This is a very important factor to ensure your comfort during the practice. In case the height of nails is uneven in different parts of the board, you may feel all sorts of discomfort. The thickness of the nails we chose for our METADESK nail boards is 2 mm. From our experience, this is the optimal thickness for a pleasant practice experience.

What materials are your boards made of?

Sadhu nail boards you may find online can be made from wood, plywood, rubber, or even plastic. For our METADESK nail boards, we use plywood. We believe this material is the most durable and suitable for Sadhu Nail boards. Due to the structure of plywood (made of several layers of wood), it is great for enduring big loads and doesn’t change its initial shape with time. Plywood is also an allergy-friendly material known to be used in the production of furniture for children, hence totally safe for everyday use.

What is the difference between materials used in the production of nails?

All nails used in our nail boards include the following: galvanized, brass-coated, copper, and bamboo nails. Each material has its own properties and benefits. Galvanized nails are the best option for beginners. Brass-coated nails are very durable as they encompass both properties of brass and metal for a more profound practice. Copper nails are great for everyday practice and have the highest vibration compared to other metals. Sadhu copper nail boards are recommended for advanced practitioners. Bamboo nails are the best option for travelers as they are lightweight (400 grams!) They are pleasant to the touch and unlike metal nails, they are warm. At the same time, bamboo nails exude vital live energy compared to their metal counterparts.

So this bench is light, portable, you can remove the legs, so you could easily transport it taking only 3” thick by 2 feet aprox. It is the perfect height fir kneeling position for an average sized person. I place it on a flat floor pillow and it is very comfortable allowing my back to remain erect when meditating.
