This is an authentic antiquarian book of the era - it is not a reproduction, not a re-print, not a digital print. The hard cover book has 407 pages plus 40 pages of advertising of other natural and physical science, math, and technology books published by Longmans. The work is presented over 25 chapters covering: Introduction; Various Principles of Mechanics; Strength and Nature of Materials Used in Machine Construction; Screws, Bolts, and Nuts; Keys; Cotters; Pipes and Pipe Joints; Shafting and Shaft Couplings; Support for Shafts; Belt Gearing; Rope Gearing; Wire-Rope Gearing; Friction Gearing; Toothed Gearing; Cranks, Cranked Shafts, and Eccentrics; Connecting Rods; Cross Heads and Guides; Pistons and Piston Rods; Stuffing Boxes; Valves; Riveted Joints; Steam Boilers; Steam Engines; Examples of Triple Expansion Marine Engines; Example of Locomotive Engine; plus a good index. Brock Chicago Ill." The hard cover book measures about 8 5/8" by 5 5/8" by 1 1/4". In good condition.
