A unique perfume composed around the complex aromas of the Black Trumpet mushroom, Craterellus cornucopioides. Shall we call it, a gourmand mycosoliflore?
The delectable mushroom lands with fresh lemon zest and black pepper, before swirling into lush flowers - neroli, plumeria, elder blossom - and a delectable spread of apricot, berries, chocolate and a savory hint of fromage. The base accord is oak leaves, musky mycelia and damp soil, smoky Oudh, and a wisp of Ambergris trapping flower petals into the dark dry down.

Made in collaboration with fellow forager, artist Scott Bluedorn who shared his bounty of dried trumpets - revealing an incredible bouquet of funky, floral, fresh, umami, earthy smells swirling inside the brown paper bag like fine whiskey.
The next spark of inspiration was coming across them myself in the Long Island oaks. Re-focusing my eyes after zoning out to a trailside slope of curiously hole-y earth, I was met with a world of ethereal little trumpets staring back, brown, grey and black blooming out of the crumbly soil. A word came to mind: Chthonic!

Pronounced ‘thaa-neek’ this word originates in the greek khthōn (earth) and refers to the underworld and its residing mythical beings. Black trumpets are also called 'devil’s trumpets' or ‘trumpets of the dead’ (Totentrompete, trompette de la mort) as they appear to be played by beings underground. They're mycorrhizal with large trees and well camouflaged to the soil and fallen leaves, more visible on inclines. They smell wonderful fresh, but the drying process is what really enhances their aromas producing the prized black truffle-like flavors.
Infusing the dried trumpets, we added flowers, fruits and woods to amplify the natural notes into a delightful truffle of a perfume.

1 ml tester filling the 2 ml vial halfway. Your perfume arrives in eco friendly packaging with a card listing the inspiration and notes.

Apply to well moisturized skin, preferably over a balm containing beeswax which coats the skin. This is an all natural perfume with ephemeral notes, transforming on the skin then lingering as a veil of smoky mushroom.
