Throughout human history, Opals have left people breathless at their beauty; ancient Romans thought the Opal to be a conglomeration of all the worlds’ most beautiful stones, and Caesars were known for gifting them to their wives for protection and good luck, as well as carrying Opal talismans on their person for their own good fortune.
One of my personal favorite stones, Ethiopian Welo Opal is an amazing work of natural art, with each stone a unique piece unto itself. While Australia has long been known as the world’s leading producer of precious opal, a discovery in Ethiopia’s Welo district in 1990, and subsequent commercialization in 2008, has brought these wondrous gemstones to the forefront of the gemstone world, featuring dazzling colors, greater clarity, and higher durability than all other precious opal.
This pendant features a beautiful bi-colored Ethiopian Opal, with brilliant flashes of neon green that provide an almost cat’s-eye effect, interspersed with flecks of red, blue, and purple. Perched directly above is a single faceted Ethiopian Crystal Opal, with color plays of green, orange, and red. These 2 stunning stones are set in solid 925 Sterling Silver.
