The Story Behind the Art
This art print draws inspiration from Oahu's legendary Banzai Pipeline, where powerful waves meet ancient reef formations along the North Shore. The artwork captures a moment when a massive wave surges toward the shoreline, its crystal-clear face transitioning to deep cobalt blue as it races across the shallow reef. I used careful paper layering to recreate the varied textures found here, from the smooth glass-like surface of the unbroken wave to the explosive white spray at its crest.

The scene unfolds in layers - smooth golden sand and scattered volcanic rocks anchor the foreground, while native beach morning glory and tufts of aki aki grass bend toward the ocean. Behind the main wave, additional swells march in from the deep water, creating a natural rhythm beneath a dramatic Hawaiian sky. Along the shoreline, iconic palm trees line Ehukai Beach Park, their fronds bending inland from the strong trade winds, while the misty peaks of the Ko'olau mountains rise in the distance.
