I designed this map to illustrate the extent of Central America's Lenca population and culture. The Lenca are a Mesoamerican people native to Honduras and El Salvador. They are famously known for their resilience as they pushed back against the Spanish invaders under the leadership of Lempira. I took note of important archaeological sites connected to the Indigenous Lenca, where they took part in the ancient Mesoamerican trade between the empires from the north in Mexico, their Mayan neighbors, and the peoples of the south, such as the Incas. These sites were: Quelepa, Yarumela, Los Naranjos, and Tenampua. I also noted famous regions where the Lenca culture thrives to this day, such as Intibuca, Comayagua, Chilanga, Perquin, Cerquin, and many more!

As a Salvadoran with Honduran ancestry, I took pride in learning about the Lenca. My family has lived within the regions of the former Lenca territory for as long as we can remember.
