Jugendstil jewellery—the German and Austrian iteration of the Art Nouveau movement (circa 1895–1910)—is celebrated for its sinuous "whiplash" lines and nature-inspired motifs. Championing craftsmanship over industrial mass-production, the style elevated artistic expression and unconventional materials, such as enamel and horn, above the mere display of expensive gemstones.
Characterized by whiplash curves, nature-inspired motifs, and plique-à-jour enamel, authentic pieces from makers like Theodor Fahrner, Martin Mayer, and WMF can be sourced from specialized UK antique dealers.
