🌿 FOOD SAFE WOOD FINISH – BEESWAX & RAW LINSEED OIL
Clear, natural wax oil for woodworking and furniture

This food safe wood finish is a traditional blend of raw linseed oil, beeswax, and citrus solvent (d-limonene). It is designed for woodworkers and makers who want a natural, clear finish that enhances grain without creating a hard or plastic-like surface.

This is a penetrating oil and wax finish, not a surface coating. It nourishes the wood from within and leaves a soft, hand-rubbed feel that is easy to maintain over time.

These ingredients were chosen for their long history of use in traditional woodworking finishes, where deep penetration, easy maintenance, and natural materials are preferred over hard surface coatings.

✅ WHAT THIS FINISH IS
✔ A clear, natural oil and wax wood finish
✔ Made with raw linseed oil, beeswax, and citrus solvent
✔ Food safe once fully cured
✔ Penetrates the wood instead of forming a surface film
✔ Leaves a low-sheen, natural finish that feels like real wood
✔ Easy to refresh and repair without sanding back to bare wood

This finish is ideal for makers who value control, simplicity, and traditional materials.

❌ WHAT THIS FINISH IS NOT
✘ Not a stain (no pigment or color added)
✘ Not a varnish, polyurethane, or hard film finish
✘ Not a hardwax oil
✘ Not a thick, glossy, or plastic-feeling coating
✘ Not a fast-drying, one-coat finish

If you are looking for a sealed or glossy surface, this product is not the right choice.

🪵 IDEAL USES
This finish works especially well for:
• Cutting boards and butcher blocks
• Wooden bowls and turned objects
• Utensils and tool handles
• Furniture and cabinetry
• Wooden toys and nursery projects (once fully cured)

It performs best on bare, sanded wood and highlights natural grain without obscuring it.

Unlike mineral oil, this finish will gradually cure within the wood, which helps it last longer between applications while still remaining easy to refresh.

For wooden toys, nursery furniture, and similar projects, allow the finish to fully cure before use, as you would with any natural oil-based finish.

🌳 APPEARANCE ON WOOD
✨ Enhances grain and figure without artificial color
✨ Slightly warms the wood tone (varies by species)
✨ No stain or pigment added

Lighter woods and softwoods will show more visible warmth. Dense hardwoods develop depth and richness with subtle contrast.

🧴 HOW TO USE
1️⃣ Apply a thin coat using a cloth or your hand
2️⃣ Allow the finish to soak into the wood
3️⃣ Wipe off all excess thoroughly
4️⃣ Allow to dry and repeat as desired

Multiple thin coats work better than one heavy coat. Final sheen increases with buffing and additional applications.

⏳ CURE TIME & FOOD SAFETY
🥗 This finish is food safe once fully cured.
⏱ Cure time depends on temperature, airflow, and wood species.

Natural oil finishes cure slowly by design. This is normal and expected. Allow adequate curing time before food contact or heavy use.

🔁 MAINTENANCE
🔹 Designed to be maintained, not locked under a permanent coating
🔹 Easily refreshed with light reapplication
🔹 No stripping or aggressive sanding required

Ideal for items that see regular handling or wear.

🧪 INGREDIENTS (fully disclosed)

Natural separation may occur. Stir before use.

📏 SIZE & NOTES
• Jar size is selected at checkout
• Coverage varies depending on wood species and surface preparation
• Jar style shown in photos may vary

🤍 WHO IS THIS FINISH FOR?
This finish is a great fit if you prefer natural, traditional finishes, want food-safe materials, enjoy hand-applied finishes, and want a surface that can be repaired and refreshed over time.

This may not be a good fit if you want a fast-drying, glossy, or sealed finish.

💬 If you have questions about a specific project or wood species, feel free to message us — we respond quickly and are happy to help.

FAQs
🥗 Is this finish safe for items used with food?
Once it has fully cured, yes — this finish is appropriate for items that come into contact with food.

It’s made from raw linseed oil, beeswax, and a citrus-derived solvent. Like all natural oil finishes, it needs sufficient time to cure before being put into service.

⏳ How long before the finish is ready to use?
There isn’t a single fixed timeline.

Drying and curing depend on factors like room temperature, airflow, wood species, and how much finish is applied. Natural oil finishes cure gradually, which is part of how they penetrate and protect the wood.

Give the finish time before heavy handling or food contact.

🎨 Will this darken or stain my wood?
There are no pigments or dyes in this finish.

That said, oil naturally deepens grain and slightly warms the appearance of the wood. The effect is subtle and varies depending on species — lighter woods show a more noticeable change than dense hardwoods.

🪵 What kinds of projects do people usually use this on?
Customers commonly use this finish on cutting boards, bowls, utensils, furniture, tool handles, toys, and other handcrafted wooden items.

It’s best suited for projects where a natural look, tactile feel, and easy future maintenance are preferred over a hard sealed surface.

🧴 What’s the best way to apply it?
Apply a small amount with a cloth or your hand, let it absorb, and then wipe off anything left on the surface.

Thin coats work better than heavy ones. Additional coats can be added once the previous application has had time to dry.

🧠 Is this the same as hardwax oil or varnish?
No — it behaves very differently.

This finish does not form a hard film and is not intended to replace varnish, polyurethane, or hardwax oil products. It’s meant to soak in, condition the wood, and be refreshed over time rather than locked in permanently.

🔁 What does upkeep look like over time?
Upkeep is simple.

When the surface starts to look dry or dull, just clean it and apply another light coat. There’s no need to strip or sand down to bare wood unless you want to.

🌿 Why use raw linseed oil instead of boiled?
Raw linseed oil penetrates deeply and cures more slowly, which helps it condition the wood without creating a surface film.

The slower curing process is intentional and contributes to the natural look and feel this finish provides.

Boiled linseed is filled with chemical dryers like Cobalt, that can be incredibly dangerous to humans. Raw linseed oil is free of the dryers, and will is practically edible.

🧴 The finish looks separated in the jar — is that normal?
Yes, completely normal.

Because this finish is made with natural ingredients, separation can occur over time. Simply stir well before applying.

📦 How quickly will my order ship?
Orders typically ship within one business day.

This finish is made in small, recently prepared batches that are ready to go — no long wait times.

📦 Shipping is free.

💬 Can I reach out if I’m unsure this is right for my project?
Of course.

We respond quickly and are happy to talk through wood species, application questions, or whether this finish fits what you’re working on. You’re welcome to message us before or after ordering.

I bought a coffee table and end tables from Pottery Barn maybe 10 years ago. They are made from Mango wood - still in great condition but the wood was looking dull and discolored in spots. I had weever done anything than dust with a clean cloth or occasionally use a liquid wood conditioner/cleaner. This product darkened the wood to original color, looks brand new. I also used on my oak dressers - cleaned them well. I am so glad I bought this product. I wish I had taken a before picture. This item exceeded my expectations!

Looks and smells lovely. So far I have used this only on a cluster of 60-70 year-old wooden arrows; the look and feel are immediate. I think I will let these cure for a few days and add one more light coat. A subtle and beautiful oil/wax blend. Thank you.
