Authentic vintage Moroccan Berber shoulder bag handcrafted from genuine leather and decorated with traditional silk cactus embroidery. This one-of-a-kind Choukara bag combines artisan craftsmanship, bohemian elegance and timeless ethnic style. Perfect as a festival bag, everyday crossbody or unique collector's piece.
The CHOUKARA is the traditional Berber handbag, worn over the shoulder by men and used as a purse or wallet.

I bought these bags in the 1970s in Marrakech from a highly skilled, already very old, craftsman who hand-stitched them right in front of me. These bags have become rare because skilled artisans have disappeared… These bags are made to last, proof positive! I find these choukaras become more and more beautiful with the patina of time. This one is in perfect condition: not a single scratch! The silk tassel has become a little ruffled… You can polish it by wetting it, but I left it as is because I find it charming this way.

This bag is handmade from high-quality leather, a beige with a hint of green, and the embroidered scalloped edge is made of raw cactus silk. Agave, a type of cactus native to Mexico, is widely cultivated in Morocco. Its fibers are used to produce agave silk, an alternative to traditional silk. Sabra is a very lustrous and silky thread. It was originally used for ornamentation in traditional Moroccan clothing.

It comes with a long cord, for a strap, also made of cactus silk. This bag can be worn as a shoulder bag or across the body.
It is fully lined with softer leather and has an interior pocket.
