All seeds vary on how long it takes for them to sprout. We recommend you always do your own research before purchasing the seeds to know what to expect when purchasing rare seeds :)

How do I grow my seeds?

There a lot of different techniques used for each seed and there is no one way. We will include basic instruction with your packet of seeds that you order but outside of that the more you research and learn on your own the better experience you will have. We have hundreds of seeds and its almost impossible to know everything about each one :)

Are these seeds poisonous?

SOME seeds may cause a harmful effect so please please please do research before bringing seeds into your environment around pets and kids. We are in no place to give medical advice.

Will this seed grow here?

Almost all seeds besides most annuals have a specific zone they can grow naturally in. This zone is called a hardiness zone. Look up your hardiness zone based on your postal code to find out what your zone is. Once you obtain that number you can search for seeds appropriately :) For example "Purple flower hardiness zone 9"

Seeds from Salvia dorrii var. dorrii, commonly known as Great Basin Sage, is a low-growing, aromatic perennial shrub native to arid regions of the western United States. This member of the mint family (Lamiaceae) thrives in dry, rocky soils, including desert slopes and scrublands, where it is well-adapted to drought and extreme temperatures. The plant forms a dense, rounded mound typically reaching 30–60 cm (12–24 inches) in height and width. Its gray-green, narrow, lance-shaped leaves are covered in fine hairs, giving them a soft, silvery appearance and a distinctive sage fragrance. In late spring to early summer, the plant produces vibrant spikes of tubular, lavender to deep purple flowers, often with showy, colorful bracts that add to its ornamental appeal. The flowers attract a variety of pollinators, including bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds. This hardy species requires full sun, excellent drainage, and minimal watering, making it a popular choice for xeriscaping, rock gardens, and native plant landscapes. It is also valued for its resilience and ability to thrive in nutrient-poor soils. Zones 5-9

Germination

Germinating Salvia dorrii var. dorrii (purple sage) seeds requires conditions that mimic the arid environments in which it naturally thrives. To improve germination rates, stratify the seeds by placing them in a moist paper towel inside a sealed plastic bag and refrigerating them for 2–4 weeks. After stratification, sow the seeds on the surface of a well-draining, sandy or gritty seed-starting mix, lightly pressing them into the soil but not covering them, as they require light to germinate. Place the container in a warm, sunny location or under a grow light, maintaining temperatures between 18–24°C (65–75°F). Keep the soil evenly moist but avoid waterlogging, as the seeds are adapted to dry conditions. Germination typically occurs within 2–4 weeks. Once the seedlings develop a few true leaves, they can be transplanted into individual pots with a cactus or sandy soil mix. Gradually acclimate the young plants to outdoor conditions before planting them in a sunny, well-drained garden site. Purple sage is drought-tolerant and requires minimal watering once established.
