2.5" (6.35cm) x 1" (2.54cm) (claw)
Your key ring will never be confused with someone else’s when your keys are on this distinctive handmade Dinosaur Claw key fob. I sculpted a scaled down Allosaurus claw, cast it in cold cast bronze, polished it to a shine, and added a protective coating. Then it was attached to a silver chain and keyring. The claw is two and one half inches long and one inch across at the widest point. The heft and shine of metal makes this feel great in your hand and look ferocious. It comes with an informative label about the science behind the design.
Each item is handmade and hand colored so there may be subtle variations from one to another. Each one is unique.
ALLOSAURUS CLAW
Allosaurus was widespread and the dominant meat eater of the Late Jurassic of North America 148 million years ago. At a length of 30 feet and a weight of 1 ½ tons it was a formidable predator. The mouth was the business end of an Allosaurus. It was filled with pointed serrated teeth that made the tooth function like a steak knife in cutting the skin and muscle of its prey.
Although Allosaurus walked and ran on its powerful legs, its shorter arms were nevertheless powerful. The hand had three fingers, each ending in a recurved claw. Although only the bony part of the claw is preserved, in life it was covered by a horny sheath that tapered to a sharp point. With this sheath on it, the claw was twice the size of the bony core.
The double concave surface at the base formed the knuckle joint with the rest of the finger. The deep curved groove on each side was for nerves and blood vessels. The large bump near the base was for muscle attachments to close the hand and claw. This replica is of the thumb claw, the largest and strongest of the hand
