McCoy Jade Green Vase with Art Deco Design

Today we offer this lovely 1930's dark green glazed McCoy art pottery cylindrical vase which rises to a flaring rim. The body of the vessel has three bold flowing lines that becomes one angular geometric elbow where it attaches to the base of the triple layered rounded foot creating a stacked illusion of handles. There are two inner rings that are visible only when one looks down the interior throat of the vase; the exterior wall has a smooth surface.

This McCoy vase is an exquisite testament to the golden age of American art pottery, It embodies the streamlined elegance and handcrafted charm that defined the era. With its tapered cylindrical form, flared rim, and sculptural handles, this piece is a remarkable fusion of functional design and artistic expression. The deep jade-green glaze, a signature of McCoy’s early Art Deco period, is richly saturated with a subtle, variegated finish that enhances its sculptural presence.

The distinctive side handles, subtly stylized in a flowing, organic form, echo the aesthetic sensibilities of the time, reminiscent of the interplay between classical and modernist influences in early 20th-century design. The ribbed base lends both visual weight and stability, grounding the vase in a balanced, architectural silhouette that complements its otherwise sleek and refined shape.

This versatile piece is as practical as it is beautiful—ideal for showcasing floral arrangements or serving as a striking standalone statement in any distinguished collection. The high-fired ceramic body ensures durability, while the rich glossy finish of the glaze adds depth and authenticity, a nod to the handcrafted quality that makes McCoy pottery so sought after today.

McCoy Pottery: A Legacy of American Craftsmanship
Founded in 1910 in Roseville, Ohio, McCoy Pottery rose to prominence as one of the most beloved names in American ceramics, celebrated for its accessibility, superior craftsmanship, and diverse range of decorative wares. By the 1930s, McCoy had embraced the modernist trends of Art Deco, introducing bold glazes, clean geometric lines, and sculptural embellishments that set its pieces apart in both artistic and commercial circles. Unlike some contemporaries that catered exclusively to elite collectors, McCoy bridged the gap between affordability and high design, making fine pottery an attainable luxury for middle-class American homes.

Coveted by collectors for its exceptional glaze work, distinctive forms, and historical significance, early McCoy pottery has become increasingly rare in fine condition. This particular vase, with its bold, period-correct glaze and gracefully articulated handles, represents a prime example of the company’s artistic innovation in the pre-war years. Whether acquired for personal enjoyment or as a strategic investment, this vase stands as an enduring artifact of America’s golden age of decorative ceramics—a sophisticated piece of history that continues to appreciate in both aesthetic and monetary value.
