3D Printed Birth Comb: Affirmation & Box Breathing Diagram

This 3D printed birth comb is made of PLA+ and features a customizable affirmation as well as a diagram for box breathing, also known as square breathing. The back of the comb has a rough texture which is great for calming sensory input, while the front is satiny and smooth.

A birth comb works on the Gate Control pain theory, which is basically the idea that our brains can only process a certain amount of pain at one time. So if you purposely cause yourself pain in a way that does not injure or harm you, and is also something YOU control, that can (theoretically) help you cope with contraction pain. It will not take away from the pain you're feeling, and certainly does not replace any medical intervention or pain medication, but in helping you cope with the pain, it may help you avoid pain medications that you do not want OR help you cope before you get the medication. This is one tool which may work for some and may not work for others. It is not medication and is not a replacement for medical advice. Please stock your proverbial toolbox of coping mechanisms with many things! We did not invent the idea of a birth comb but we are pleased to have created something that resonates with people!

Steam or 99% isopropyl alcohol can be used (the same way you would sterilize any tool between clients. Steam may slightly warp the comb after many rounds but it is filled solid so it should hold up okay!) We're just a doula and her husband trying to make something that will help some people cope with labour!
