Do you offer a guarantee?

Antique jewellery, by its very nature, is more fragile than modern jewellery and can be more prone to damage. Many of our pieces are 150 years old or more, it is part of their charm and they will require special care. We guarantee all our items as described but can not guarantee they won't need maintenance or repair due to use and wear. However, with a modicum of care, the jewellery you cherish of can last many more lifetimes to come. We accept no responsibility for pieces that become damaged whilst in your possession and such damaged items cannot be returned. Treat your jewellery as you would treat a beloved elderly friend, with respect, kindness and in a gentle manner.

Do you offer ring sizing?

We do offer a re-sizing service for our rings please contact us with your ring size for a cost estimate. Please be aware that if you choose to have a ring sized, or a piece altered in any way, it is considered a customised item and is non-returnable.

Can I place a custom order?

We are unable to show our entire collection in our Etsy shop so if you are looking for something that we don't have please feel free to contact us by email, phone or through our website. We have many more items in stock than are listed and may have the perfect piece.

How do you identify and date your vintage and antique jewellery?

Vintage means older than 20 years old, and antique means over 100 years old. We do our utmost to accurately date and describe our jewellery. We use a variety of techniques, testing and observation. All precious metals are tested. We use both electronic testing equipment (Presidium Gold Karat Tester) and acid testing. All gemstones are tested with the Presidium Gemstone Tester and we use industry standard gauges and digital calipers for measuring gemstones. If we have a piece appraised we use independent gemologists and jewellers who have no connection to or vested interest in our shop.

Why Is Your Shop Based in the UK but Prices Listed in US Dollars?

We originally opened our Etsy shop in 2010 while based in the USA. Since then we have relocated back to the UK, however Etsy does not allow us to change the default currency of an existing payment account, so our Etsy shop continues to operate in US dollars. We also have our own website at mercymadge.com where our default currency is British pounds (GBP). Prices may vary slightly between platforms depending on the day’s exchange rate, but you are welcome to purchase from whichever location and currency is most convenient for you.

CAN I RETURN AN ITEM?

Yes, we accept returns for any reason. • Please notify us of your intention to return an item within 3 days of delivery. To qualify for a full refund, the item must be shipped back to us within 7 days of delivery (14 days for buyers in the European Union). • Returns that fall outside these timeframes may be accepted at our discretion and may be subject to a restocking fee. • Returned items must be in their original, unaltered condition. • For orders that qualified for free shipping, our original shipping costs will be deducted from the refund amount. • Buyers are responsible for return shipping costs. We strongly recommend using a tracked/insured service. For international returns please read the additional instructions below

In addition to the return instructions outlined above: * Items must be returned in the original packaging with our UK customs form visible. * To avoid delays or import charges use the correct classification on your customs declaration form. Declare country of origin as the UK *Any import charges incurred by Mercy Madge due to errors in labelling will be deducted from the refund owed. This exquisite Victorian sterling silver bangle is fully hallmarked for 1883 and boasts beautiful rose and calla lily floral decoration. It is even encased in it's own antique drum shaped leather box from Bressey & Sons, Stratford East in London, a pièce de résistance addition to any antique jewellery collection!

Crafted on the oval and solidly constructed (not thin and flimsy) the bangle has rolled edges along the top and bottom for added strength and comfort, it is hinged on one side and has a secure box clasp on the other. The front of the bangle is beautifully hand-engraved and features 3 octagonal panels enclosing raised sprays of roses and calla lilies, the stepped design adds a lovely depth and dimension as do the solid silver beads that accent the top and bottom. In the Victorian language of flowers roses speak of eternal love and the cala lily magnificent beauty, Victorian jewellery is steeped in romance!

The fitted bracelet case is made of wood covered in maroon leather with gold tooling. It has brass hinges and hook latch and the interior is lined in turquoise silk and royal blue velvet. It is printed in gold inside the lid "Bressey & Sons, Watchmakers & Jewellers, 326 High St. Stratford E"

HALLMARKS: Stamped inside front 'lion passant' for sterling, 'anchor' for Birmingham, date letter 'i' for 1883 and makers mark 'W.F'. Stamped inside back 'lion passant' and date letter 'i'
SIZE: Width 1-1/8"/2.8cm. Internal dimensions approximately 5.5 cm × 4.8 cm (2.17 × 1.89 inches). The inner circumference is approximately 16.3 cm (6-5/8 inches) making this a UK small size oval bangle.
WEIGHT: 35.2 grams
DATE: Victorian, dated 1883
CONDITION: the bangle is in very, very good condition showing just light surface wear, faint scratches and a few tiny dings as you'd expect in a silver bangle this age. Note dark spots are reflections. The clasp is in perfect working order and closes securely with a click. The hinge good with no sign of heavy use. The fitted bangle case is in very good antique condition with general signs of old age like surface wear to the leather exterior, the hinges and latch are in good order.
