The innards contain 18 poems by Paul David Adkins - and according to the man who wrote it, here is what those poems were inspired by:
"It's about Martha Gray Adkins, my daughter, and her encounter with a suicidal convenience store robber. An awful night. So glad I could manufacture something out of her trauma."
Below is the chapbook's first poem, followed by biographical information about the poet.

She Didn’t
She didn’t lock her truck.
She shut it off.
She left the keys
hanging on the column.
The BBs in her air pistol
rattled in her jacket pocket though
she clutched it
tight as a child’s hand,
crossing a busy street.
The glass door’s tin bell tinkled.
The clerk girl smiled.
She entered the convenience store.
She wasn’t going to
buy anything.
She saw the Lotto tickets
Just My Luck!
She whipped out
her last twenty,
thought
What the hell!
If God wanted to
save her, now was His chance
to give her
one hundred
thousand signs.
