Onoclea sensibilis
Sensitive fern or bead fern

A freely running, deciduous fern with broad, deeply pinnatifid, smooth leaves. It spreads in moist soil and stays low to the ground, usually not more than 12-18". Very effective as a moist shade groundcover. Use dried for cut flower arrangements. This also is a beautiful fern and works well around a pond or water garden and tolerates wet/soggy ground.

Sensitive fern gets its name from the tendency of the fronds to wither at the first slight frost.

• Family: Dryopteridaceae
• Habitat: wet meadows and woods, swamps, stream banks; usually in slightly acidic soil
• Height: 18-24 inches
• Location of spores: on separate fertile fronds, within bead-like modified leaflets
• Stipe (leaf stalk): yellow or pale tan, dark brown at the base with a few scales
• Zone- 2-10
• Persistence: deciduous

Once received, please plant immediately. Any remaining foliage should be expected to wilt or wither when transplanting... THIS DOES NOT MEAN PLANTS ARE DEAD. Most plants/roots need several weeks to bounce back after transplanting.
