What is a Luffa Gourd?

Also known as loofah or sponge gourds, are tropical vines that produce cylindrical fruits with a fibrous interior. They are grown in warm climates, requiring full sun and well-draining soil. Luffa gourds are ready for harvest when they turn yellow or brown and feel lightweight. The fibrous interior can be used as a natural climbing and hiding item for your hermit crab! Luffa Gourd is the plant we use in our Luffa Crabby Climber. We grow, hand dry and peel every Luffa Gourd with love on our private farm!

How long does each Luffa Crabby Climber last?

Depending on where you place your Luffa Crabby Climber will determine how long it will last but I have personally gone 6-8 months with the same luffa. Eventually, since this is a natural item, it will deteriorate over time. Placing it closer to high humidity areas of your tank (i.e. pools) can effect its lifespan.

Currently, we are offering one size for our food mixes and one size for our foraging mixes. The dimensions of each bag will be in the product description. For Luffa Crabby Climbers, they range from 6in-10in in size.

After you receive your package, anything going inside your tank is recommended for freeze for 24-48 hours. We boil, dehydrate, bake and freeze our items but once they are shipped we do not have any control over what they are exposed to. This is just our suggestion to lower the risk of an already pretty rare instance.

How do we source of food ingredients?

We use either natural farm-foraged items or organic items purchased from reliable sources. Some items we grow here right on our private farm, or we use other local farms as well. We do our very best to ensure high-quality ingredients are used.

Hermit Crab Foraging Sand includes several essential minerals for land hermit crabs! They should have access to things like worm castings, greensand, leaf litter & calcium sources 24/7; which is what this foraging sand consists of.

Perfectly blended greensand, worm castings, dried natural starfish, dried crushed barnacles, sea shells, crushed sand dollars, shark teeth, crushed oak leaves and last but not least, lobster & crab shells. Simply fill their foraging dish and refill as needed. This can be left in the tank 24/7 but I do recommend cleaning the dish as needed.

Overall, incorporating these ingredients into a hermit crab's diet ensures they have access to the many different nutrients and minerals they need!

Choose the sand by itself or pair it with a terracotta foraging dish!
