Item 235-1 Is an economical but highly functional Double Fan or “Lumbeck” style Binding Press, used when needing to align the pages square, then fan the exposed page edges over to brush on glue deeper into the page than simple edge glueing allows.
The press is large enough to hold work of Letter (8-1/2 x 11”) or A4 (297 x 210mm) sized paper either vertical or horizontal. The Plate working area is 13” (330mm) Tall, and 12-7/8” (327mm) Wide, and can handle a stack of paper up to 1” (25.4mm) high.
The removable legs hold the plate vertical for glueing, but allow the press to be tipped over backwards to seat and align the paper against a stop. Snug the Clamp Bar to hold the paper secure, then tilt the press back to vertical. The hinged back stop swings down out of the way, exposing 2” (50mm) of paper, allowing use of the supplied Fan Tool to fan the pages over each way for glueing. Clamp the binding area secure with the supplied Press Plates and snug the knobs to secure and dry. The Clamp Bar and Press Plates are pressed down by using 1-9/16” (39.7mm) diameter nylon knobs with metal thread inserts for extra ease in clamping down tightly.
Made from ¾” (19mm) Maple Top plywood and Select Pine, smooth sanded, with a minimum of three coats of water based polyurethane finish applied. Steel and brass hardware.
Overall Press dimensions are: 17” (431mm) wide by 13-7/8” (352mm) tall and 14-7/8” (378mm) deep at the leg base. Work up to 12-7/8” (327mm) will fit between the rail and post bolt. Book pages up to about 1” (25.4cm) thick can be aligned and clamped in place. Assembly requires a wrench (included) to snug the bolts in place. The legs are attached with thumbscrews. The press assembly ships flat. It can be stored flat be removing the legs and 4 bolts if desired.
Options include: Four (4) mounted Rubber Feet screwed to the bottom of your press. We will quickly mount them for you at the time of order. You may also order the feet separately and mount them yourself if desired (See Item # 211-1-RF). Additional Press Plate sub-assemblies are available upon request and made to order – please inquire at this time.
We use CNC equipment to bore hole locations to close tolerances (and engrave our logo out of the way just to spiff things up a bit!) and allow interchangeability of components.
