Vintage Chinese Carved Cinnabar Lacquer with Cloisonne Bead from the 70's and Black Onyx Bead Earrings.

Beijing carved lacquer ware is a traditional Chinese arts and crafts. By carving landscapes, bird-flowers and human figures on the moulded body of an article which is coated with relatively thick layers of lacquer. This arts crafting has been started far back during Han (漢) Dynasty (B.C.206 - 220A.D.). The processes involved in carved lacquer ware are very complicated. In general, copper is used for making the internal structure; sometimes wood is being used. From 80 to 150 layers of lacquer have to be daubed, followed by design tracing, carving, burnishing and other procedures. It requires several months and sometimes over a year to produce one article. The processes involved in carved lacquer with cloisonne are much more complicated and required much longer time for production as they need to finish the cloisonne by one crafter then passed on to yet another lacquer crafter to finish the product. The time for finishing product need longer time than the normal one. These carved lacquer with closionne beads are not easy to find nowadays as too much time and too many work required for the finished product.

For the carved cinnabar lacquer with cloisonne beads in these earrings, they are vintage items from the 70's and all were hand carved items; that's why each bead is unique and one of a kind! They are valuable and collectable items.

Cloisonné is the technique of creating designs on metal vessels with coloured enamel placed within enclosures made of copper or bronze wires.
