This vintage Japanese piece of fabric is hand made from fine woven cotton or hemp fabric. It was most likely used as a mosquito net and coloured with an organic dye.
It is a deep olive green with one strip at the end which has faded to a teal colour.
It is in good condition with one 2cm worn hole and some worn areas - it has possibly been around since the 1930s but it feels older than that.
It has a fine woven texture and has some gorgeous stiffness to it.
33cm x 100cm
I have not laundered it.
Such a lovely piece of Japanese textile history.
There is another lighter coloured piece available. Sew them both together to hang over your door way.
It joined the Suitcase of Happiness on the island of Hokkaido where the forest green was blanketed in snowy white.
