MDF is a relative of plywood and particle board but denser. We cover it with marine grade varnish so it's ready for outdoor use, and eventually can be re varnished -with a previous light sanding- just as any regular wood house trim product.

This is the second time I've ordered this sign, I think we got the last one about 10 years ago. This time we're going to spray it with some type of matte acrylic so that the Wisconsin weather doesn't destroy it...it's a beautiful sign!
