Festool Kapex KS 120 Zero Clearance Dust Collection Throat Plate

Seller's description

PLEASE NOTE: Due to a material shortage, these will be shipped in BLACK, not GREEN as pictured.

The Festool Kapex KS 120 has one inherent flaw that all other miter saws have: A huge gap in the back of the throat plate that allows any debris that falls below the table to shoot out all over the back of the saw. And since a lot of airborne dust particles are too small to see, that means you're breathing a lot of that dust in as well.

Enter the Dust Collection Throat Plate. This replacement, zero clearance throat plate has a built-in shroud that surrounds the blade under the table, guiding all the debris to the rear of the saw. And once there, a specially designed vacuum port sucks it all away via a clear vinyl tube connected to your vacuum or extractor.

Here's what's in the box:

Throat plate/Shroud: This will come as two pieces, a front section and a rear section. It replaces the factory throat plate and installs reusing the factory screws. (An additional bare Throat Plate is also included as a replacement for if/when the zero clearance on the first one starts to wear out.)

Vacuum Port: This installs on the rear section of the throat plate with four small screws (preinstalled).

Clear Vinyl Hose: This is what carries the dust away. It connects the throat plate vacuum port to the vacuum adapter.

Vacuum Adapter: This is what allows everything to work together. On the vacuum side you can hook up to almost any extractor, shop vacuum or even a dust collector. It will accept 2-1/2" dust collection hose, 2-1/2" shop vacuum hose, 1-7/8 shop vacuum hose or 36mm (or 36/32) Festool antistatic hose (NOT INTENDED TO BE USED WITH 27MM HOSE). On the tool side there are two ports. One port is to hook up to the factory exhaust port on the Kapex. The other port is sized to fit the supplied 1/2" outside diameter vinyl hose OR can be used with 5/8" inside diameter hose (not included or available from us). All fittings are tapered to provide a secure connection to a wide variety of brands of hoses, both new and old. Works with both EB and REB models.

NOT INTENDED FOR BEVEL CUTS! The throat plate and dust shroud are intended to be used with the blade at 90 degrees to the table. You can enjoy dust-free, quality cuts at any miter angle your saw was designed to make, but bevel cuts will destroy the throat plate and the vacuum port.

Selecting the option "REPLACEMENT" will get you just a bare throat plate, without the necessary hardware/pieces to make it work. This should only be added to you cart if you have already purchased a Dust Collection Throat Plate kit before and simply need to replace the throat plate itself.

All parts 3D printed with PETG filament.

The seller worked with me to correct my mistake (I ordered the wrong one). They were courteous, helpful, and resolved the problem without making me feel like an idiot.

The zero clearance vac insert installed easily. I was stoked to use it. One minor problem, the inset used to protect the hose, was fat enough that I can cut through any material I cut. Ugh! So I have a sacrificial board behind everything I cut until I attempt to fine to the stop insert.
