Up for sale is 2 loose 40mm x 30mm UNSET - BRIGHT WHITE SUGAR SKULL w/ FLOWERS Day of the Dead or Día de los Muertos Cameos on a BLACK color Background. These CAMEOS are made of RESIN (an acrylic medium similar to plastic, but much more durable). These cameos are to be used for making COSTUME JEWELRY. Each is a NEW CAMEO and is ready to be used in your COSTUME JEWELRY and CRAFT MAKING creations. (NOTE: I have included an extra close-up photo of one of the cameos for you to better see its detail. This auction if for 2 cameos.)
I hate to even include this but due to the ridiculousness
of one buyer I am going to make the following statement :
PLEASE NOTE:
THESE CAMEOS ARE NOT MADE OF SUGAR THEY ARE MADE OF RESIN AND USED FOR MAKING COSTUME JEWELRY.
THE NAME "SUGAR SKULL" IS REFERRING TO THE STYLE OF THE CAMEO.
PLEASE NOTE THAT THEY ARE NOT ACTUALLY
MADE OF SUGAR.
Here is a brief history of the meaning of sugar skulls
"In Spanish folklore, these exquisite skulls are called "calaveras de azúcar." They are traditionally made of sugar and decorated with colored icing, sequins, glitter, candies and more. Flowers are a common addition to represent not only death, but also life. Therefore, although skulls are often depicted in scary ways, sugar skulls aren't meant to induce nightmares.
They are created to celebrate Day of the Dead ( Día de los Muertos) a Mexican holiday. The celebration takes place on November 1st and 2nd, related to the Catholic holidays of All Saints’ Day (November 1) and All Souls’ Day (November 2), and it is in remembrance of family and friends who have died.
They are given as gifts to the living but also to the dead. You may find sugar skulls placed on a grave, along with the deceased's favorite foods and drinks. Often the name of the departed is written on the forehead of the sugar skull."
Each cameo measures 40mm x 30mm or approx. 1 1/2 x 1 1/4 inches.
