Cecil Aldin 1928 original bookplate/print. This is a genuine item, not a copy or reprint, guaranteed 80+ years old -excellent condition no foxing or staining.

'Which tells you all about dog shows and of Cracker's great invention' Micky Irish wolfhound and Cracker Bull terrier.

Cecil Aldin of the most popular artists of his era, first worked as a magazine illustrator but became known on both sides of the Atlantic as a talented sporting artist . His personal interests included fox-hunting, horse-racing, golfing and the countryside and his illustrations included all these subjects and more including pastoral scenes, cathedrals and London gentry but it is for his charming and often humorous dog illustrations that he is most remembered.
His affection for dogs, shines out of every one of illustrations and his understanding of all things canine allowed him to create works of art that were at the time said 'to capture the very soul of the dog'.

Mick and Cracker were always the best of friends and both were Aldin's favourite models and he loved them dearly. When his own health began to decline, Aldin and his wife Rita moved to Majorca, taking Cracker and Micky with them. There, he continued to produce books and features about them for The Illustrated London News, the New York Times and The Sketch. The two dogs were so popular they even received their own fan mail.

Unfortunately, Micky never really acclimatized to his new surroundings. He died from heart failure just a year after the move to Majorca.

In January 1935 while Aldin was away on a visit to London, Cracker – back home in Majorca – started to howl in a most extraordinary and unprecedented fashion. It was several hours later that the news reached Rita Aldin that her husband had died from a heart attack in the London Clinic. She could not ascribe the terrier’s behaviour to anything other than a reaction to the severing of a psychic link between the man and the dog.

This is matted (mounted) and ready for you to frame and give as a wonderful present.
Mount is black in colour and contrasts well with the print. Size with mount is 8" x 6"

All prints are enclosed in a clear cover and posted in hardback envelopes which state 'Please do not bend' in large red writing on the front, for their protection.

Lovely little prints, nicely presented with the matting and in excellent condition. Nice to be able to get a group of prints by the same artist
