I harvest properly-sized roots at the correct time of year from pesticide and herbicide-free spaces. We grow beyond organically on our farm! I then pack quart jars full of this powerful herb and macerate it in castor oil with a bit of sunflower seed oil so it won't clog pores. This also makes it not as greasy feeling as an olive oil (which can clog pores) salve. This is the original Poke Castor Salve!

If you see pictures of finely chopped poke root on other listings, those are NOT hand dug as is claimed in their listings and are from one of several herbal distributors who source from only one farm in the Pacific N.W.

Castor oil not only gives this salve a unique silky smooth feel, but it’s known for its rich fatty acids, and things I can't list here or I'll get deleted. This salve is especially powerful when paired with heat.

You can warm the target area with a wet washcloth and/or place some salve in a small bowl that is sitting in a container of warm water before applying to the skin for additional benefits. OR you can apply the salve, lay a flannel cloth over the area and apply a hot water bottle (not a heating pad).
