Seeds produced in the last 6 months (or more recent) by sustainable methods - no added chemical fertilizers and zero pesticides! These are the same seeds I will be planting in my own garden this coming growing season. Seeds prefer temperatures over 80 degrees F to germinate. Lower temperatures will result in lower germination rates.

I observed the plants to be vigorous growers and the flowers have a mild, sweet taste. They dress up your salad and make for a beautiful garnish on other plates; so easy to add when you pick them fresh from your own yard! The flowers can also be dried to make a popular tea (which changes color from a deep blue to a pink-purple with the addition of lemon or lime juice).

Vines grow 6-10 feet so provide a location for them to do some climbing but they're not unruly. Mine typically flower best at the end of my subtropical summer but continue to produce throughout my mild winter (I would expect them to do well in a temperate summer climate). They are VERY easy to grow and will liven up any landscape, even if you don't want to eat the flowers.

The "fruit" (pods) may be edible when VERY tender, but I have no experience eating them. They seem to toughen quickly, but I've heard anecdotally that they be edible. I wouldn't personally recommend it, though.

Germination rate should be very high (>75-85% or better). Moderate to full sun is best in an area with well drained soil.

To plant: Directly sow the seeds where you want the plants to grow. For me, that is along a fence so the plants can climb easily. As with most seeds, plant them about as deep in the soil as they are large. In this case, 1/8 to 1/4 inch deep should be fine. These plants ought to sprout in about a week.
